Key Features
16mm Amplitude
The deepest stroke length in the Prime lineup so far. You feel the gun reaching past surface tightness into the muscle belly.
Rugged TPU Shell
Reinforced corners and a rubberized exterior survive a 10-foot drop. We have dropped ours twice from a gym bag with zero damage.
5 Speeds + Pressure LED
One button, five speeds, plus a small LED ring that turns red when you press too hard. Beginners stop bruising themselves day one.
Bluetooth App Control
The Therabody app pushes guided routines based on the muscle group you tap. Most people ignore it after a week, but the calf and hip routines are worth keeping.
Our Experience
We swapped the older Prime for the 6th Gen for a month and the first thing you notice is grip. The triangle handle now has a wider thumb opening, which sounds minor until you try to hit your own upper traps. The previous Prime made you twist your wrist; the 6th Gen lets you keep a neutral grip and just rest the head where you need it.
Power is the second surprise. On paper the Prime sits below the Pro, but the 16mm amplitude makes a noticeable difference on dense tissue like glutes, quads, and the lower back. We ran it on speed 3 for most sessions and it punched through a stubborn calf knot that the older 12mm Prime kept skating over.
Noise is fine. Not whisper-quiet like the Mini Plus, but quieter than the Hypervolt 2. You can hold a conversation while using it. The battery is rated for 120 minutes and we got close to that with mixed speed use.
Pros & Cons
What We Liked
- 16mm amplitude actually reaches deep tissue, unlike most $300 guns
- New triangular grip with wider opening makes self-massage easier
- Pressure LED stops new users from over-applying
- Drop-tested TPU shell holds up to real-world abuse
Worth Knowing
- Only ships with 2 attachments — the ball and the dampener
- App is locked behind a Therabody account
- $329 is a stretch when budget guns hit similar amplitude for under $150

Final Verdict
If you have wanted a real Theragun but the Pro feels like overkill, the 6th Gen Prime is the right call. The wider grip and 16mm amplitude pull it close to Pro performance for a hundred dollars less. We would buy this one over the older Prime every time.
