Key Features
Single-Strain L. Plantarum
Built around a patented strain (L. plantarum OM) that survives stomach acid and reaches the gut alive, which most strains do not.
Protein Breakdown Help
The strain ferments proteins so your body absorbs more amino acids from the food you already eat, useful after heavy training.
Targets Bad Bacteria
Goes after problem bugs while leaving the good ones alone, which is unusual for a probiotic and helpful when training stress hits the gut.
Shelf Stable
No fridge needed. Throw it in your gym bag with your other supplements and the strain stays viable.
Our Experience
We rotated P3-OM into our recovery stack for six weeks alongside a normal training block, two capsules in the morning on an empty stomach. The first week was uneventful. By week two, the gut bloating that usually shows up after high-protein days had calmed down a lot, and that was the first thing we noticed.
What surprised us more was sleep quality. Not dramatically different, but cleaner. Whether that ties back to gut-brain signaling or it was a coincidence, we cannot say for certain. We are reporting what we felt rather than overclaiming.
Cost is the part most people will push back on. P3-OM is not cheap compared with a generic probiotic. The argument BIOptimizers makes is that one targeted strain, alive at point of delivery, beats a multi-strain blend that mostly dies before reaching the gut. After six weeks we found that argument credible enough to keep buying it.
Pros & Cons
What We Liked
- Less bloat on high-protein days
- Survives stomach acid (most probiotics do not)
- Shelf stable, no refrigeration
- Works in a recovery stack without stacking caffeine
Worth Knowing
- Pricier than generic probiotic capsules
- Effects build slowly, give it 3-4 weeks
- Single strain, not a substitute for a multi-strain blend
